Built from a Simple Idea: Window Shades Shouldn't Be Complicated

While remodeling her home in 2003, Ruth Yoder, founder of Creative Holmes, saw a problem: store-bought shades would not fit her tall, narrow windows.
Frustrated by the limited options, she set out to create something new — a custom shade that fit perfectly, was easy to use, and reliably controlled light, added comfort, and improved privacy while still looking stylish.
With resources she found in her father's shop, Ruth began to develop her idea. After some trial and error, lots of tweaks and adjustments, she created an easy-roll shade she believed in and essentially launched a business that soon became a local leader in window treatments.

The business soon outgrew its original factory and in 2007 moved into a new 10,000
square-foot facility. The space includes a customer showroom and manufacturing for both Creative Holmes shades and its sister company, Holmes Tarp Shop, which makes custom covers for boats, generators, grills, outdoor furniture, enclosures, and more.
